Panayiotis Zorpides is participating for the first time in the Authentic Phidippides Run, a 490-kilometer route from Athens to Sparta and back, in aid of the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends, PASYKAF. His participation in the race is dedicated to his aunt Galatea and all those affected by cancer.
“Early summer of ’24. One Sunday in June, exactly 40 days after his death, my aunt Galatea sits in front of me and confides in her pain, sharing how cancer has ravaged her body. The signs are severe, both on her soul and her body, as with so many other cancer patients who suffer. Words are unnecessary, and only tears suffice. Among other things, she tells me how PASYKAF has helped her. And for this, I made my decision. To run in support of their work with a fundraising campaign. To participate in the Phidippides Run, 490 kilometers from Athens to Sparta and back, carrying just one message: ‘Hold strong.'” – Panayiotis Zorpides
The race will start on Thursday, November 21, 2024, and Panayiotis must complete the route by Monday morning, November 25, 2024. The total time limit to finish the race is 98 hours, and the athletes will be equipped with GPS devices. You can follow the progress of all the athletes through a link that the race organizers will announce on their Website or Facebook page.
PASYKAF sincerely thanks him for his support through this challenging journey. Every step in this race represents a step of hope and support for people with cancer experience and their families.
