The kick-off meeting of the European project IFIGENEIA “Innovative Facility for Isotope GENeration with Efficient Ion Accelerator” took place on April 3rd and 4th, 2025, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

IFIGENEIA is a four-year project that began in March 2025, funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme. It is coordinated by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and involves 22 partners from 6 countries. This is a landmark initiative that brings together leading partners from the academic, public, business, and social sectors, aiming to strengthen Europe’s capabilities in nuclear medicine, research, and cultural development.

Specifically, the project aims to establish three Excellence Hubs in the Balkan region, securing a production platform for a wide range of radioisotopes through the creation of a LINAC (Linear Accelerator) facility. The project’s outcomes are expected to have a significant impact on cancer diagnosis and treatment, foster innovation, and promote technological and economic development.
